Marriage vows are promises that each person in a partnership makes to the other on on their wedding day. Traditionally, wedding vows go something like this:
I, [name], take you, [partner’s name], to be my wedded [wife/husband/spouse], to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, Etc etc.
I think most of us can agree that the general sentiment of the traditional vows is nice! Promising to be there for each other no matter what, through thick and thin, is a huge part of marriage! But what if you’re not religious (vows are rooted in Western Christian norms), or perhaps these vows don’t truly express everything you want to promise to your partner, or maybe they just feel stale.
This is a huge reason why a lot of people choose to write their own wedding and elopement vows. Many people find it to be a creative way to express your love for your partner on one of the most important days of your lives. It allows you to personalize the experience and say things that really resonate for both of you.
Sure, this all sounds nice, but where to begin? I gotchu. Here’s a list of tips to help you write epic wedding vows that truly embody you and your partner’s relationship...
